I passed the General class license exam last weekend. I can now use Dad's HF tranceiver over more than just the small sliver of 10 meters that Technicians have access to.
I also made a few changes to the antenna. I added some extra coax line so the ladder line directly connected to the antenna can hang down straight instead of diagonally towards the house. My brother in-law helped me raise the ends of the antenna quite a bit higher as well. That made a big improvement as I could hear someone in the UK for the first time.
The 2 meter handheld project has pretty much been given up. I can't get crystals to make it work on local frequencies and I have no idea what some of this custom wiring in the back of it is supposed to do. I'm not sure what I'll do with it now.
